Netball News

14 March 2025

On Wednesday 12th March we took the Year 7 and Year 8 team to play Netball against Selwood Academy. The Year 7s are quite a newly formed team and clearly made progress throughout the match. Initially they were very much having to work defensively but created more attacking plays as the match progressed. Unfortunately on this occasion they did not manage to score with the final result being 17-0 to Selwood. A massive well done for their perseverance and determination to keep working throughout. The team consisted of Florence Andrews, Martha Marks, Mollie Wines, Leah Brickell, Neva Eden, Emma Cawthra, Ella Wilkinson and Isla Castle. The players of the match were Mollie Wines and Martha Marks. The Year 8s worked superbly as a team with some great passing play and movement into great attacking positions. They showed great communication and collaboration and this was reflected in the result with Oakfield winning 15-5. Superb effort! The player of the match was Keira Clark - great work Keira! The team consisted of Ivy Sledge, Minty Mitchard, Jemima Platt,Ammie Brassington, Keira Clark, Anne Coelho, Elsa Brooks and Polly Hackworthy. MRS STICKLEY

Monday afternoon Mr Shaddick and Mr Coleman escorted 2 teams of Oakfield students to Bristol Grammar School for the inaugural regional primary chess challenge. There were 32 teams in total from a diverse range of schools from the West Country and South Wales. Both teams played very respectfully dignified and showed great maturity in their approach to the game. Oakfield B team consisting of Isaac Anderson, Archie Campbell-Brooks, Jacob Penney and Magnus Macdonald played 2 teams from Sidcot, Wheatfield and Blagdon schools and came 30th out of 32 overall. They faced several tough matches and remained resilient throughout drawing out to several stalemates & being victorious over Sidcot B team 3-1 and all won at least 1 individual game. Oakfield A team consisting of Rubus Gay-Saxon, Theo Ball, Theo Ravenscroft and Sam Macdonald played teams from Westbury on Trym (3-1 win), St Johns Cardiff (1.5-2.5 loss), Wrington (3-1 win) & Bristol Grammar School (2-2 draw) and came a very impressive 9th place overall! All 4 were superstars! It was a great experience for everyone overall. Thank you also to Lizzie Ball & Dominic Gay for coming along and supporting.

On Thursday 30th January the Year 8 Netball team attended the U13 State Schools Netball Competition. It was a great afternoon of Netball against some fierce competition but the girls held their heads high and played exceptionally well. Although we did not secure any wins, we scored a good number of hoops and had a really close result with Gillingham, losing 7-5 and then a draw with Westfield “B” at 5-5. A massive well done to all the girls involved - Ammie B, Araminta M, Keira C, Polly H, Elsa B, Amber HE, Anne C, Frankie L, Eve P and Layla B.
